The AATravelInsurance is reported to have reneged on a promise to pay out on travel claims resulting from the volcanic ash cloud.
According to yesterday's Guardian, an original offer to cover the cost of policyholders' disrupted travel plans was an act of goodwill, and the insurer's underwriters have reconsidered their position as airlines look set to pick up costs, as required under European law.
Meanwhile, Flybe is claiming to be the first airline to offer Volcanic Ash Insurance, which is being underwritten by Chartis, its travel insurance partner.
The policy provides cover should the UK Civil Aviation Authority or any relevant overseas equivalent close airspace and scupper holiday plans.
